Astacus multicavatus Bell, 1863 is a marine lobster (Decapoda: Erymoidea: Erymidae), not a freshwater crayfish

Abstract Crayfishes comprise a large and diverse group of freshwater lobster-like crustaceans. Despite being abundant in the recent, they are extremely rare fossil record. We revise putative occurrence Astacus multicavatusBell, 1863 from marine Hauterivian Speeton Clay (Speeton, United Kingdom), which was used few years ago as calibration representing AstacusFabricius, 1775 for divergence time analyses. This species is actually senior synonym to Eryma sulcatumHarbort, 1905. It so appears that multicavatum (Bell, 1863) comb. nov. not crayfish but representative Erymidae. Two co-occurring isolated chelae, also Clay, may correspond larger, older specimens E.
